Ham 4 Good

July 27, 2020 by suzannechiles Leave a Comment

The original Hamilton cast unites for three livestreams of #Ham4Change.

Original “Hamilton” cast members Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Neil Haskell, Christopher Jackson, Javier Muñoz, Phillipa Soo and more have organized a series of livestream events to raise money for organizations fighting to end systemic racism. Featuring behind-the-scenes stories, trivia, games, prizes and special “Hamilton” content, the #Ham4Change events will stream at Aug. 1, 9, and 15, with the aim of raising $1 million.

Tickets are $10. You can find out more about #Ham4Change and these events here. Tickets for the August 1 livestream fundraiser are on sale now at the Looped website.

I’ve already got my ticket for August 1 — hope to see you there.

His Name was Alexander Hamilton

July 26, 2020 by suzannechiles Leave a Comment

As we all know by now, Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton, titled Alexander Hamilton, was the inspiration for the musical. I’ve read it twice in the last few years and it is one of the best-written biographies I’ve ever read and has inspired me to read more about the founding fathers. Chernow’s biography of George Washington, Washington: A Life, is also excellent and worth reading. Hamilton is also available as an audiobook.

I’ve gathered some reviews of Chernow’s Hamilton.

Spit Take

July 25, 2020 by suzannechiles Leave a Comment

It seems that Jonathon Groff, who played King George III quite brilliantly in Hamilton, gets rather warm when he sings–which is no wonder given the weight of the costumes–and tends to sweat and get “moist,” which he exhibited in the film version of Hamilton. That was a lot of salivae.

This story about the spit and a wonderful conversation during the editing process.

A tip of the hat to ScreenRant for reporting this.

Hamilton is in the House

July 24, 2020 by suzannechiles Leave a Comment

In the White House, that is.

Very soon after Barack Obama became President, he and Michelle Obama did something that had never been done before: they decided to have a Poetry Jam. A number of noted poets and writers were invited, including the young Lin-Manuel Miranda. He was supposed to perform a song from In The Heights. But Lin had something different in mind.

Now we fast-forward to 2016. Hamilton has become the greatest phenomenon one can imagine and the Obamas have invited the full cast to visit the White House. On the afternoon before the evening performance, First Lady Michelle Obama fills the place with students who are going to meet the cast and learn as much as they can.

President Obama introduces the event at the White House.

That evening, the cast of Hamilton sings for the First Family.

The cast honors the President with “One Last Time.” And everyone cries.

The Muppets Take Hamilton

July 24, 2020 by suzannechiles Leave a Comment

One of my guilty pleasures the past few weeks was the Muppets version of Hamilton, Act One. And today, Act Two was dropped. It’s just audio. I would totally be behind a filmed Muppet version of Hamilton. These aren’t the real Muppets, but they sound just great.

Those who only knew Hamilton from listening to the cast album learned something new when they viewed the Hamilton film on Disney +.

At the very end, Eliza gasps. But why? This article from Oprah Magazine discusses a couple of theories.

Which theory do you think it is?

The Bullet

July 21, 2020 by suzannechiles Leave a Comment

The members of Hamilton‘s ensemble play the roles of various minor characters throughout the show, from Charles Lee to Philip Schuyler, but there’s one character that most audience members probably won’t notice at all: The Bullet. Played by Ariana DeBose, The Bullet represents death’s slow march towards Alexander Hamilton throughout the show, and interacts with characters in key moments of foreshadowing.

This story from ScreenRant has a good discussion about the Bullet.
